New Look for Not a Good Look

Not A Good Look Website ‘Not a Good Look’, Butt Free Australia’s national awareness initiative has been given an exciting new make-over.

Fronting the campaign is the new and improved ‘Not a Good Look’ website which as well as providing clear information and dispelling the myths around butt littering, reiterates the importance of taking personal responsibility by encouraging active participation.

Amongst the highlights on the site, visitors are able to receive a free personal ashtray for themselves or a friend, download campaign resources, submit images, participate in polls, leave comments and watch videos on a dedicated channel. Tools to encourage family, friends and colleagues to change their butt littering behaviour are also provided in the form of email templates and links to social media.

Wendy Jones, CEO of Butt Free Australia says that the new site has been set up in response to positive public feedback and discussion, something she’s hopeful to encourage even more of in the future.

Insight Mining – Digging Deeper into Butt Littering

Insight Mining Butt Free Australia has released new research into the attitudes and behaviours of butt litterers.

The research drills down even further into the various butt littering segments - Apologists, Rationalists and Defensives. Amongst other things it explores the broader concept of socially unacceptable behaviour, butt littering behaviour and implications for campaign activity.

Firefly, the qualitative consultancy of Millward Brown who conducted the initial behavioural research in 2009, was commissioned to undertake this next phase. An !deaBlog study which employs a social media style  forum to elicit reactions and opinions over a 4-5 day period was undertaken in late 2010.

The findings, presented at the recent Waste Management Association of Australia 'Success by the Tonne' conference held in Melbourne have been used to further refine and shape the successful 'Not a Good Look' campaign.

Film Buffs Butt It, Then Bin It!

CSA The 58th Sydney Film Festival went off with a bang and Butt Free Australia was proud to be part of it!

Broadcast on the giant outdoor screen situated in Martin Place, our ‘Not a Good Look’ Community Service Announcement (CSA) was viewed by thousands of people over the course of the 12-day festival.

Produced in conjunction with Keep Australia Beautiful, the CSA highlights the need for personal responsibility when it comes to butt littering, reminding people to 'PLEASE BUTT IT, THEN BIN IT’.

“Our CSA continues to enjoy wide exposure around the country and sends a clear message that no matter which way you look at it, butt littering is not a good look”, says Butt Free Australia CEO, Wendy Jones.

The CSA is available in both a 15 and 30 second version. Click here to view.

Melbourne’s Turn for ‘Not a Good Look’

The Not a Good Look message will hit the streets of Melbourne in late August through an innovative partnership involving Butt Free Australia, City of Melbourne, Melbourne Water and EPA Victoria.

Utilising the newly refreshed ‘Not a Good Look’ artwork, the campaign will use a combination of on-ground and media based activities that will highlight the issue, offer solutions and generally raise awareness  around the problem of butt littering.

Radio will be used to drive people to www.notagoodlook.com.au to find out what they can do to help create a Butt FREE Melbourne, while an education desk will be featured in three key CBD locations that attract high passing foot traffic. A butt bin rebate will also be offered to businesses, while both social and traditional media will be used to widely convey the campaign message.

A Taste of Waste

A Taste of Waste A Taste of Waste is an informative new publication produced by the Metropolitan Waste Management Group (MWMG) which aims to provide an overview into the waste and resource recovery sector in Victoria.

Proudly sponsored by Butt Free Australia, A Taste of Waste addresses topics such as the problem with litter, product stewardship, the environment, education and challenges for the future. With cigarette butts being the nation’s most pervasive litter item and one in ten ending up in our waterways, it was an obvious choice for Butt Free Australia's involvement.

A guide to acronyms and a glossary of waste and resource sector terminology are practical features of the booklet, as is the guide to who’s who in the sector.

A Taste of Waste is available to download from the MWMG website here.
