Welcome to the Butt Littering Trust
An environmental organisation, the Trust manages and allocates funds to support and establish projects that reduce cigarette butt littering across Australia. The Trust also conducts independent research and gathers information on butt littering and solutions to butt littering to share with litter managers.
Trust Lifts the Stakes in Fight Against Butts
The Butt Littering Trust has consolidated its role as Australia’s leading protagonist in the fight against butt littering with the appointment of its first full-time Executive Director. Chairman of the Trust, Mr Ian Coles said that the appointment would provide a clear organisational identity and a huge boost to resources in order to achieve the Trust’s vision of a Butt Free Australia.
Since its inception in late 2003, the Trust has run over 71 projects nationally with partners registering a butt littering reduction of approximately 24.9%.
Mr Ric Hubbard has accepted the appointment as Executive Director. He will offer policy leadership on butt littering issues and build strategic partnerships with governments, and hospitality, transport and property business sectors. Mr Hubbard’s credentials have afforded him considerable experience in developing and delivering community-based programs. He has a background in establishing key partnerships and setting strategy, and is a strong campaigner of changing behaviour and common community perceptions. “We will also further enhance the tools sought by those dealing with the cost and environmental impact of butt littering,” he said today.

A Statement from the Butt Littering Trust Comments have been made about the Butt Littering Trust, an organisation that exists solely to reduce the littering of cigarette butts – 49% of Australia’s litter by number according to Keep Australia Beautiful. It appears that some organisations that focus on the health impacts of smoking believe that the Trust’s acceptance of funding from the tobacco industry is inappropriate. The Trust respectfully disagrees.
