Butt Free Australia congratulates Waverley Council on a colourful butt littering prevention campaign, launched on Sunday 10 January at Bondi Beach (Sydney), following a smoking ban on the sand to curb the number of cigarettes being stubbed into one of Australia’s most iconic beaches.
Wearing fish tank helmets filled with cigarette butts, ‘The Waterheads’ caught everyones attention and the creative 3D chalk art on the promenade was photographed and posted throughout social networks all over the world.
‘Don’t be a Tosser’ posters were distributed to shops, backpackers and cafes, and lifeguards at North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club asked beachgoers to ‘butt it, then bin it’ over the loudspeakers.
The Sydney Morning Herald and Wentworth Courier covered the story and reality show Bondi Rescue interviewed chalk artist, Rudi Kistler (Zest Events). The campaign was well received by the community with a number of positive reports back to Council.
