Victorian support for Education, Infrastructure and Enforcement

Victoria

Victoria’s Premier John Brumby has announced a new $6 million package to help reduce litter by 25 % within the next 5 years.

The package will help fund the Creating Cleaner, Safer Places litter strategy. This strategy is led by Sustainability Victoria and supported by the EPA and the Victorian Litter Action Alliance (VLAA), of which Butt Free Australia is a member.

‘We will work with councils,’ said the Premier, “to roll out expanded public place recycling, employ local government litter prevention officers, produce a behaviour change campaign to help the community understand the issue and develop litter prevention kits for roadside rubbish.”

Butt Free Australia were very encouraged by this support, and particularly Premier Brumby emphasising that the new package centres around the key elements to change behaviour and prevent littering – also central to Butt FREE Solutions – education, infrastructure and enforcement.
