With 14,186 fines across Victoria issued in the last financial year, EPA Victoria has publicly congratulated those members of the public who report people they see littering from motor vehicles.
EPA Director Environmental Services, Chris Webb said that in the last five years, EPA has issued close to 90,000 fines through the litter reporting program, the first of its kind in Australia. Unfortunately the majority of these have related to cigarette butts.
It makes sense then that EPA Victoria has joined with the City of Melbourne and Melbourne Water as our partners in this year's Butt FREE Melbourne initiative. With messages higlighting the impact of butts on our waterways, amenity and the illegal nature of littering, Butt FREE Melbourne will remind Melbourians, and visitors alike, that butt littering is 'Not a Good Look' when it kicks off in mid-August.
