A Kick in the Butt

“I float above the ocean on my surfboard. It's calm out here, pure and clean. As my hand dangles in the water it touches something soft. I look down. There are cigarette butts floating on the surface, swollen and stained brown. I sit up on the board, afraid to have my face near the polluted water....”

So begins Johanna Grahn’s article about butts, their impact on the environment and two great local initiatives.

The 'Eco Divers' that operate in the Northern Habour area of Sydney and along the Northern Beaches are saving the planet....one fish at a time while the ‘Two Hands’ project encourages people to devote thirty minutes to picking up litter in their favourite place.

Johanna is a journalism student with a passion for the environment and making a difference. It’s a nice piece of work by Johanna, so take the time to have a read.
